Dear California, Vote NO on Proposition 8!
Lordy! Someone stop me! Whatever happened to rants about the TSA or video game reviews? What happened to this wonderful little blog? My little, peaceful, politics-free slice of the Internet? I know, I know. But tough.
Here are some great videos from the "I couldn't have said it better myself, so I'm not going to bother trying" file:
Just doing my part to reach the, up to, three fans in California who actually read my personal blog. Thanks for your time.

I think your blog is amazing! I love AOTS and I love tech but it's nice to get to know you as Kevin not you as Kevin Pereira, Cable Television Darling. The almost randomness of your blog keeps it fresh and interesting. Keep it up!
And, no, I don't live in CA (DC girl currently relocated to WV for college) but same-sex couple should get married if they want to. I'm getting married soon and the fact that gay people are getting married affects me zero percent. Love is love, no matter what.
...Fuck gays....
Dear God I hope it doesn't pass. This is California for Christ's sake! Great post, Kevin.
on the flip side of this whole christianity vs. gay marriage equality argument, i heard another interesting viewpoint. every christian talks about how the sanctity of marriage is a fundamental christian value. well if you bring in the separation of church and state, then the state shouldn't endorse a religious value, and thus do away with all marriages and just give everyone (straight or gay) civil unions. religions can call their civil unions "marriages" if they want to, but with the state not calling them marriages, it will technically be equal for all.
Great videos, thanks for posting them Kevin. I don't live in California at this time (did last year, now back in Michigan. Yay.) but we get these horrible ads for some Prop 2 here in Michigan where they tell you that they are splicing cows and human beings together, basically into some super-being.
I had a sinking suspicion that the people behind it may be on the bible-thumpin' side. I was right.
I agree with those videos by saying there are more important things to worry about in both states then whether two people of the same sex can marry each other and be happy and if scientists use embryos for research...which is already legal.
Can't wait for the show tonight!
great post kevin.
KEVIN VS OLIVIA!!
MUNN-HANDLED!!
TIME FOR DINNER!!!
(those confused - 2&3rd posts)
Great post K.P! Its great to see people who are open minded and understand equality.
We have the same amendment here in Florida. Prop 2 here.
Hey, I read your blog about twice a week, and I gotta say I love that you are getting behind "NO on PROP 8"
....oh, and I live in California, I watch Attack of the Show, X-play, read Olivias blog, and im gay! =D
What's up Kevin! There are more than three Californians who read your blog. I'm guessing there could be up to like 27 or maybe 29. This 70 year old guy on my street has like 4 vote yes on 8 signs in his front yard and it makes me sick. I'm a 22 year old straight male and I don't understand why nobody brings up the point that this is similar to when we wouldn't let black people do anything. In fifty years when gay people have had all the same rights as straights for a while we are going to look back on this and be disgusted with the way people treated them. And then there's that commercial where the young girl tells her mommy that in school she learned that a prince can marry a prince and a princess can marry a princess so the girl said she wants to marry a princess. I think all of us with 2 brain cells to rub together know that if you're straight you're not going to be suede by a book and the same for someone who is gay. Don't be homophobic and vote no on 8!
"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

P.S. Loved the McCakke video. I know you're a fellow weight lifter. That would be a pretty good post workout shake with all the fast digesting carbs. Unfortunately Olivia wouldn't be there to beer bong it for me. DOLLAR MENU MILLIONAIRE!!!
The Gay marriage is a tough debate. Personally I vote yes. My reasonings are, yes, because of my religion, but marriage is a religious union. I'm fine with homosexuality. Go for it. But, I think if they want to have a union together, I don't think they should be able to call it marriage. And I don't think that voting yes deprives them of being with each other. It isn't like we are taking them away from each other. Plus if we vote no on this, it could even go farther to people saying," well why not allow us to marry more than one person?" I vote yes on prop 8.
So. Cal. here, I really can't believe we are even doing this. Banning same sex marriages makes absolutely no sense. Why aren't our politicians doing something better for us, the people? Oh yeah, you are fucking awesome Kevin!
To everyone that's saying vote yes (and is serious):
I can understand if you're religious and think it's 'morally' wrong, or whatever, but really, it's none of your business. It's not a question of YOUR morals if two people you've never met and prolly will never meet want to get married. Stop trying to tell people that you clearly have no intrest in how to live their lives. I hope every single one of you have a gay child and get to watch how miserable they are solely because people like you.
And can someone explain to me how allowing gay marriage will lead to getting married to multiple people? That's just stupid

It's your religion, YOUR religion, not the rest of California's. Marriage is more a legal issue than it is religious, the religious aspect is not everyone's reason for marriage.

What the hell does polygamy have to do with gay rights? You sir, are an idiot.

Well Kevin, you see what you started here.
Someone needs to inform the American people that marriage is a legal matter, not a moral one. Today two people who are completely non-religious can go down to their local city hall and get married. If their argument about the sanctity of marriage is correct, then why no outrage over the above scenario that has been allowed basically forever? One word... prejudice.
Folks need to stop mixing up their personal beliefs with public policies... or perhaps drop the pretenses and stop cloaking their personal biases in the vale of some greater good.
Kevin! I'm a gay man who is a fan and lives in California. I discovered ATOS because my little bro (who happens to be straight) is a gamer. So you definitely have more than three fans in SoCal! :) And I have to tell you, as the younger brother of a gay man, he was very excited to tell me you had posted these videos.
To all of the Vote on Yes people: As heterosexuals you are a majority and have the voting power. I cannot tell you how frightening it is or what it feels like to know that intelligent honest living people have the right to vote on my rights because of a belief that exists in the abstract realm of faith and thought. With a smile and a casual attitude, you profess a difference of opinion and keep me from having a piece of your world.
Beyond all of that, if Prop 8 passes it will have singled out a specific group of the population and removed rights they legally have. Gay marriage, as of today, exists in California. It's never a good idea to ever start removing rights that people have. Can you see that?
The idea that gay marriage will be taught in school is ridiculous and is a flat out lie from the Yes on 8 campaign. You speak as if your children will be given the choice to become gay. Do you think that people become gay because they learn about it? I am a child of God, created in God's image. God made me gay. The message of Jesus Christ was to love one another. Show me in the Bible where it says that Jesus spoke about gay marriage needing to be illegal.
I do not understand what you are scared of. Being gay is not a choice; there is no such thing as normal; and I deserve the same happy ending as you do. By voting yes on 8, you keep me from having the same rights as you. Why can't people see that separating each other is not the answer?
To the yes on 8 people who profess not having a problem with homosexuality, your blind ignorance literally pains my heart. I sit here knowing that out there people like you want to keep me separate, judge me via your vote, and honestly believe that my very existence is a sin. It's not just an opinion. It's not just a religious belief. It's my life.
you are absolutely right. you can't have a state religion or make laws on morality. because every one's morals are different. but i also get what the guy is saying about the polygamy. it's just the next step in the ladder. all the arguments you are using for gay marriage can be applied to anything. i.e. "who are you to say we three can't share the same happiness as a regular married couple." or " why can't this goat and I be allowed to get married, it's my personal choice." (yes i'm being funny)
Where do you draw the line. he's not saying polygamy has anything to do with gay marriage, just that if we are a nation with no morals at all...about anything....well.....then, i guess we'll all die of aids or something! (kidding)
oh and the bible did say it was an abomination, check leviticus. just throwing that out there...not judging you.
kevin kevin kevin. i surely surely hope you read these comments, and same for those people who comments here. and if you do and everyone please watch this:
http://vimeo.com/1978711?pg=embed&sec=1978711
if you don't want to hear from a christian's perspective, watch that. i know most people get tired of hearing it from a christian's point of view because of their beliefs, but this one is actually from a secular point of view. i truly guarantee it.
i know most people here are open-minded, so i hope you'll watch that video with an open mind also, and not shut it down in the middle of the video.
My name is Todd and I am writing to express my concern over having my Prop 8 signs stolen from my yard. Last Sunday upon arriving home from church at 5:00 I put out my Prop 8 sign on my front lawn. After having dinner with my family I left at 5:50 for a meeting and discovered that my sign was gone. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so someone would have had to drive down, take the sign and drive away. I have put up other signs on busy roads and the signs are always missing by the next day. Obviously, the supporters of Prop 8 are not taking them down. So I have to ask: "Where is the tolerance?" "Why do those with opposing views feel my expression must be silenced?" I have no problem with the opposing view expressing their opinions. It does not threaten me nor make me feel as if my view is less important. It is just a view different view. That is what freedom of speech is all about. Simply put, if you see a Prop 8 sign up one day and missing the next, the only person who could have taken it is one who is intolerant of the views of others.
Ok I'm a christian and I have absolutely no problem with gay marriage. It is completely nonsensical to say that someone should be terrified about teaching gay marriage in schools. If I had learned that I could marry a guy would that have made me want to? No. People are born that way, teaching about it won't change that. I can learn that some people enjoy the taste of spinach. Does that make it so that I now enjoy the taste of spinach?
This isn't just a religious v gays discussion either, because all of the Episcopal bishops and the board of Southern California Rabbis have opposed it.
Another thing, voting yes on prop 8 actually does "separate" them in the sense that they can be denied visitation rights and child rearing priveliges
One argument I have no clue about is the "let them get married but don't call it marriage" gem. What? marriage is a word. Giving someone the same rights but a different word to describe those rights is pointless. You could have called slavery "permanent field labor," and that wouldn't have changed the cruelty of the system, just as naming gay marriage something else can't change the sanctity of the event.
I stole Todd's signs ;)
Its sad that this is only one state but its a start. I'm in Canada so its legal across the country.
Hey
just saw this and had to comment. I'm gay and from Philly and I think it is awesome that you're supporting gay marriage. I can't wait for them to actually do something about it here.
Anyway, I was commenting to give you props....
but
I was watching the video 'concerned' asked us to watch. All I have to say is first off, Where are those guys statistics coming from? Statistics are the EASIEST thing to butcher and put a spin on. If he starts speaking with real facts...then be my guest.
Second...he is assuming that gay marriage is going to fail just as often as heterosexual marriage is. Being that there is absolutely NOTHING to base this on...I just don't know where he is pulling these numbers from.
You know what really aggravates me is that he basing this all on the fact that same sex marriage does not benefit society. Here's the bottom line...
no one gets married to benefit society, they get married because they are in love and plan to spend the rest of their life with that person. Being that life is crazy, who knows if they really will stay together?
But seriously...telling people that gay marriage will cause tax raises and violence and prostitution...I must be the idiot, because I don't see the connection.
