Dear California, Vote NO on Proposition 8!

Lordy! Someone stop me! Whatever happened to rants about the TSA or video game reviews? What happened to this wonderful little blog? My little, peaceful, politics-free slice of the Internet? I know, I know. But tough.

Here are some great videos from the "I couldn't have said it better myself, so I'm not going to bother trying" file:

Just doing my part to reach the, up to, three fans in California who actually read my personal blog. Thanks for your time.

    Reader Comments (100)

    Great post Kevin.

These are some awesome adds, I wish more political commercials were as creative and entertaining. I don't live in California, but I to will stash these in the "I couldn't have said it better myself file." Thanks for the share.

I read your blog. Im from toronto and i check this site at least 5x a day using my jesus phone 3g.

I think it's bounds to happen kevin. You are getting older and thus the people who govern your area might overstep on your moral compass and internal methods. It's a good thing you are spreading knowledge and intelligent ideas around.

I'm going to vote no to prop8, once I stop eating all this poutine and hockey watching, eh!

...seriously? 3 times. It took me three times to finally type this comment using the iPhone. Aaaaanndd nooowww tthhheeee kkeesyyss are sttttiuuuccck...

    Ajhhhhhhhh kiiiiilllll mms nnnoww!!!!

oh and by the way- put some new shit up!! I'm always interested in what's new on the net and such.

If you want 700 comments like munn just start a blog rivalry.

Remember kKevin vs Olivia week? You need a k vs o blog.

Example: put squishy candy in her shoes and film her getting into them - then end the video with a catchy phrase like 'you've been munn-handled'... Or something

It's 4:10 am kevin... I got nothing. Time for me to try to count moose and put a pause to my pathetic life.

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterlogikol

Whats cool about your blog is the fact that you also throw in some politics every now and then. Your set up is cool. You can go from a pawing cat video, to Sara Palin youtube videos in the same week. Your eclectic like that. Well balanced my friend and well done.

I'm sure you have way more than 3 fans in California who read your blog, and I'm glad to hear you're voting No on 8.

Also, just because you host AOTS on G4 doesn't mean you have to let that permeate everything you do. Blog about whatever the hell you want to blog about. Plus, I like your take on politics. Like that old podcast where you talked about the ban on flag burning.
That still sits on my iPod, and I listen to it every now and then.

Oh in case I wasn't clear, I'm one of those California readers (who is also voting no on 8)

I guess I think it's just sad that things like that are still an issue. The talk about how our country's leaders have spread things too thin are really apparent when issues such as these are still on the rise. Just like the final (of the three) vids made clear, there are far more significant issues to be dealt with than restriction of "gay" marriage. I wonder if fifty years down the line historians';; be comparing situations like that with the lengthy process of abolishing slavery on the basis of human rights. Then again...I guess that's if we make it past 2012 right? Silly Mayans!

Oh and yeah two final notes...

    "Munn-handled" = hilarity

    and

    New Yorker...sorry.

I never understood how a Gay couple getting married some how lessens the meaning of a heterosexual couples marriage we are all just people and if more people would remember that the world would be better off

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermoxie

Thanks for the great post. If you help get Prop 8 defeated, will you marry me? My wife thinks you are awesome, too, so she probably won't mind. Wait... is that creepy? Because I'm going for funny/ironic. I guess if I have to explain it, then it isn't funny. Curses!

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDave-O

Even though most of my gay friends don't ever want to get married it is ridiculous that they shouldn't be allowed to. Great post.

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered Commenteraxtimusprime

My respect for you has increased tenfold after this post. Too bad I live in MA. Cali needs to catch up!

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJulissa

How many friggin commercials can that one actor book?? Oh sorry, that was my agent side speaking, on to more important things. There was a Yes to Proposition 8 ad on Olivia's blog the other day (sucks that she can't block that crap), so I took a look at it...

"It protects our children from being taught in public schools that same-sex marriage is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs."

I didn't realize California was forcing people into gay marriages. That sucks.

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSamara (belle_

Clearly if you say "It's ok to be gay and get married." you're actually telling people "YOU NEED TO BE GAY AND GET MARRIED!"

Kinda ironic that they are saying the opposite. I hate bigots, I really do.

Oh, and from Ohio...so maybe 3 readers from Cali isn't off lol.

And I agree, KEVIN VS. OLIVIA ONLINE!

I'm from Cali and I read your blog, so you got more than three here, man. And thanks for posting that! As a gay guy it's nice to see support from straight people!

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRicebot

    i read your blog!

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJoann

You're a great man Mr. Pereira, thank you for posting this.
Also, be sure to vote no on amendment 2 (if you live in Florida, like me), to have the state recognize marriage between same sex couples, ... thank you!

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEric

I live in Cali and I have been planning on voting NO on 8! Everyone needs the right to be happy.

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDJ SL

I'm a life long southern California resident and I already voted NO on Prop 8!!!! yay!

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

We have a similar amendment issue in Florida:

Florida Marriage Protection Amendment No. 2
"Inasmuch as a marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."

I'm not sure it was intended, but this could potentially take away rights from straight non-married couples in Florida as well. In any case, gay marriage isn't even permitted in Florida (and I wouldn't expect that to change any time soon with the hillbillies living down here)...this amendment only serves to further harass and punish gay people.

What a fricking waste of time...every couple of years, the homophobes in this state try this crap. However, this year, this was intended to fire up the base of the Republican party (similar to 2004's election) so that Obama loses Florida.

Hey Kevin, great post man. I personally would like to have the option to get married someday, but it's more than that with this proposition. I respect every religion but seriously, the US is such a diverse place, it's completely unfair for people to not have equal opportunity because they believe in certain things. Pushing their agenda on other people.

Nice to know you care man, keep up the good work. And I'm from Cali dude, so that's at least four? Hah.

I dont think many people hate gays or dont want them to be happy. it's just that being homosexual is wrong...from a biblical standpoint. being a christian, i dont want my son to be taught in sociology class that he has a choice to be something that i know to be morally wrong, and that its ok. i know that i cant tie down my kids, they're gonna do things that i dont like, but this is kinda a huge thing to christians. I have many gay friends and love them like i love my other friends, but i dont want my kids to think its normal to be gay........let the flaming begin i guess.

    October 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKeith

The problem with Keith's view (and many other Christians) on the matter is that it is only a Christian viewpoint that homosexuality is wrong- and we are not a Christian nation, despite the misconception by so many that we are. We are a nation without a state religion, which means your views as a Christian only apply to you, not to other people.

Therefore, the only logical course of action is to proceed in such a manner where no harm is done to the majority of people. By allowing gay marriage, you are treating them as the equals they are, while at the same time, you can force your children to believe homosexuality is wrong- "win-win" for everyone (except, I would argue, your for your kids.)

There is no harm, whatsoever, done by allowing gays to marry. There IS harm, definitively, done by NOT allowing gays to marry, by denying them their fundamental right of equality. It is no worse than slavery or sexism.

Christians need to realize that there is not one set list of concepts that define "morality"... what is moral to you, is not necessarily moral for me, and vice-versa. And neither of us has the authority to determine which set of morals is "ultimate"- therefore we must go with the set that provides the greatest freedom to the greatest number of people.
